Phil Weinberg on what’s next after the first job

“Our model is in partnership with community and employers, identifying gaps, and looking for industries where there’s opportunity for mobility, where entry is not out of reach for talented individuals who often have been excluded from the economy,” according to Phil Weinberg, president and CEO, STRIVE.

WorkingNation sat down with Weinberg at Presented by JFF Horizons – See Beyond 2022 in New Orleans.

“Much of the focus of the workforce system is focused on getting someone that first job. While that’s a critical component, making sure that employers are reducing barriers, making sure that we’re providing access to talented individuals – we really give very little effort to what happens from there,” says Weinberg.

“I think as a workforce system, we need to be more focused and invested in what happens for someone after that first job. How do we help them navigate and build a career? How do we help them build financial resilience? How do we help them identify ways to upscale and how do we help them not just get that first job, but really build a career?”
