Mona Dexter on communicating available resources to veterans

Warrior Community Integration Symposium: Thought leaders discuss support services and initiatives in the workforce for veterans and military spouses
-

Veteran unemployment is down, but there are still challenges to entering the civilian workforce, according to Mona Dexter, chief of staff and VP of Hiring Our Heroes, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.

WorkingNation sat down with Dexter in Atlanta at the Warrior Community Integration Symposium – an annual convening of veteran-serving organizations hosted by America’s Warrior Partnership.

Dexter says it’s important how available resources are communicated to veterans. “It’s a multi-prong approach to help veterans become more aware of the resources that are available. We have to think about the sub-audiences within the veteran audience. Think about what engages them most in terms of industry information, what types of pathways they should be looking at.”

“And really thinking about how they communicate. So, communicating through multiple platforms of social media, of traditional media, word-of-mouth, on the installations where the transitioning service members are still serving, and within their communities and peer groups.”
