“We’ve got to find ways to retrain, move, subsidize and get him a job or her a job so they can get some of the new jobs.” — Michael Bloomberg on CNBC “Fast Money Halftime Report” 5/10/16
The former New York mayor appeared on the show during the BTIG Charity event back in May and his statements on jobs and Trump’s success speaking to those who are struggling during his campaign up until that point struck a note with us.
“Trump has tied into a feeling across this country that their future isn’t as good as they want it to be. They’re worried about losing their jobs, they’re worried about what their kids are doing, they’re worried about the direction,” Bloomberg said.
So what can Trump do about these worries?
Bloomberg says one of the things our country needs is more global trade because it’s not globalization that is hurting businesses in our country, it’s technology. And while global trade can take away jobs in some areas of the country, it creates jobs in others. That’s where the government needs to step in and help foster programs that retrain workers in the skill sets needed for the new jobs that are taking shape with the changing economy.
