EdTech goes far beyond technology for teachers, according to Jason Palmer, general partner, New Markets Venture Partners.
“EdTech is technology that is designed to improve student outcomes or education system efficiency, which could be teacher efficiency.”
WorkingNation sat down with Palmer at SXSW EDU 2023 in Austin.
He says there have been great strides in using tech to collect data on student achievement to see where improvements can be made to assist the learner.
“More companies are focusing on performance-based tests which are ways to see whether the student gets the entire set of concepts? Can they bring it back in the form of a written essay as opposed to multiple choice? Can they do a project to demonstrate their mastery of the overall concept? Not just a single standard, but multiple standards grouped together.”
“As the field advances to more of these performance-based assessments, it’ll become more holistic in terms of the results that can be tracked, aggregated, and help students (no matter) where they’re at on their journey.”
