Jamie Merisotis on the broader movement toward generative AI

ChatGPT is a breakthrough moment, says Jamie Merisotis, president and CEO, Lumina Foundation.

WorkingNation sat down with Merisotis at SXSW EDU 2023 in Austin.

Regarding artificial intelligence, Merisotis says, “It’s not as if we didn’t know this wasn’t coming, but now that it’s here and people understand it, you see people sort of grappling with the reality of the implications of that for K-12 education, for higher education, for workforce training, for all of the different elements of the learning ecosystem. I think that’s a good thing.”

He adds, “I’m a little concerned, frankly, about the near-term moral panic that I’ve seen when it comes to the conversation about ChatGPT, but I think over time people will be able to understand how that fits into the broader scheme of how we’re learning and working.”
