WorkingNation Founder and CEO Art Bilger appeared on “Bloomberg Markets” Thursday to talk about the current state of the economy, jobs, and whether or not the Trump administration can deliver on the promise to create 25 million jobs over the next 10 years.
It was this promise, one Trump first made in September, that has sparked interest among many economists and was a jumping off point for Bilger’s interview. Bilger also discussed how there are some federal policies that can help create jobs, such as infrastructure programs, but that the bulk of the solutions are at the local level.
Among solutions Bilger cites are corporations, not-for-profits, academic entities, and local governments who understand the issues affecting their community’s workforce and can then design those solutions. As an example, Bilger cited the successful story of AmeriCorps VISTA members who helped retrain out-of-work coal miners to become coders.

Bilger also cites internships, apprenticeships and training as very important pieces of this equation to properly prepare the workforce and fill many available positions that are available and will be available in the future.
