Elizabeth Kohm on helping employers understand the value of hiring veterans

Stakeholders share ideas with WorkingNation Overheard at the NASWA Veterans Conference

“We believe in a world of work that works for all,” says Elizabeth Kohm, manager of foundation programs with the SHRM Foundation.

WorkingNation sat down with Kohm at the NASWA Veterans Conference in Washington, D.C.

Kohm says her organization uses their platform to help raise awareness about the high unemployment rates for transitioning veterans and their military spouses. The SHRM Foundation does this by creating programs that spread the word about the skills members of the military-connected community have and the value they bring to their employers.

“Our veteran ambassadors are volunteers who have committed to present to at least 250 people in their community. Many of them are exceeding that while talking about the business case for hiring in the military community. It has an exponential effect because [the community] turns around and hires military members.”
