New jobless claims for the week ending January 16 came in at 900,000, according to the Department of Labor. That figure is down from the previous week’s number of 926,000. For the same time period a year ago, the number of new claims was 282,000.

From Louisiana: KATC3 reports Amazon will open its first Louisiana fulfillment center in Carencro leading to 500 direct jobs.
From Nevada: Bicycle Retailer reports a new e-bike manufacturing facility in Las Vegas will initially create 500 to 1,000 new jobs.
From New York: Syracuse.com reports the state is providing $5 million in scholarships for low-income New Yorkers to obtain credentials for work in high-demand industries.
From Oregon: Wilsonville Spokesman reports Oregon Tech is offering training in medical lab science.
From Utah: Daily Herald reports the openings over five years of 13-15 Southern-style chicken restaurants will result in about 100 jobs per location.
