The jobless claims for the week ending November 21 totaled 778,000, according to the Department of Labor. That figure is higher than the 733,000 expected by economists who were surveyed by Dow Jones. For some perspective, in mid-March, weekly claims were roughly 225,000.
The unemployment rate for November will be released on Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
