Employment increased by 638,000 jobs last month, but the country is down about 11 million jobs since February. The unemployment rate in October saw a decline to 6.9% from September’s rate of 7.9%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

From Alaska: Solar Power World reports the Tribal Solar Accelerator Fund has granted funds to tribal communities, including two in Alaska, that will provide hands-on training for clean-economy jobs.

From Florida: WKMG News 6 reports a $5 million federal grant will fund a program to help recovering addicts access job training, while continuing to receive recovery and support services.

From Georgia: The Newnan Times-Herald reports the Technical College System of Georgia has received more federal funding to help those who have lost jobs learn new skills.

From Maine: AP News reports rural Maine businesses and startups to get help through a loan program.

From Nebraska: Business Wire reports a new Amazon fulfillment center in Papillion, Nebraska will create 1,000 new jobs.

From North Carolina: Area Development reports Pratt & Whitney is bringing a new high-tech turbine airfoil production facility to Asheville, leading to the creation of 800 jobs.

From Oklahoma: EIN Presswire reports Oklahoma energy industry partners with education sector to develop energy’s next generation workforce.

From Tennessee: Daily Herald reports Columbia State Community College launches its seven-week lineworker academy.
