Navigating the system when transitioning out of the military can be perplexing. “It can be frustrating how complex it is,” says Amber Gaither, director of the National Labor Exchange, National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA).

Her organization helps coordinate job opportunities between federal, state, and vetted businesses for veterans and civilians.

WorkingNation sat down with Gaither at the NASWA Veterans Conference in Washington, D.C., the organization’s annual conference around hiring in the military-connected community.

“There are a lot of people who are wrestling with physical and mental consequences,” says Gaither. “I am really passionate about the value that’s possible in connecting work and education and social service opportunities in one place.”
